Transitional Home Remodel in Mount Pleasant, Washington, DC

Project Overview
Our clients had a clear vision for their renovation: they wanted to add more storage, create a larger European-inspired kitchen, and introduce better indoor-outdoor flow with a new back porch. However, they were set on avoiding major structural changes, preferring a remodel that kept the existing framework intact. We honored their goals by updating and expanding within the home’s original footprint, without removing major walls or altering the exterior.

Design and Layout
Because the scope needed to stay modest, we worked thoughtfully to deliver meaningful updates without disrupting the home’s core structure. Load-bearing walls remained untouched, and although we replaced several windows and doors, they stayed in their original locations to maintain the home’s exterior appearance. Within the kitchen, we optimized the existing space—reconfiguring layouts and increasing storage and prep areas—all without requiring major construction changes. The result was a kitchen that felt dramatically larger and more functional, without expanding the home’s shell.

Style and Finish
Original exposed ceiling beams, paired with classic lighting and stylish GE Café appliances, created a warm, elevated feel. A distinctive curved hood vent adds just the right touch of whimsy against the backdrop of clean lines. Throughout the home, modern black-framed doors and windows subtly disappear into the background, letting the rich textures of natural wood and the abundant natural light take center stage.
